“PLAY THAT”

A visual juxtaposition of two opposing cultural signifiers. Jungle music and cross stitch. Stereotypically these would be separated; in terms of interest, origin and audience. I wanted to challenge that they can share the same visual space, simultaneously challenging that subcultures are integral and invaluable to British culture. The words interwoven and stitched in traditional cross stitch subverts it to a playful take on where jungle music be represented.    Society can be separatist and limiting, and this piece promotes the opposite- that even the most seemingly far apart areas of our culture are connected.
